On trouve chez André Bullinger, et fortement relayée par Henri Wallon, l’influence d’une certaine psychologie soviétique, psychologie qui proposait alors une alternative au comportementalisme. Cette psychologie, essentiellement portée par Vygotsky et Leontiev (école de Kharkov), trouve sa formulation dans la notion « d’instrumentation ». Mais au-delà de ces aspects conceptuels on peut penser que la position de l’auteur emprunte les principes d’une démarche dialectique telle qu’on la retrouve chez Marx : l’activité psychologique relève du passage du quantitatif au qualitatif, du biologique au social, ou encore de l’organisme au corps, et ceci dans un mouvement de transformation non linéaire. Par contre, l’accueil enthousiaste que lui ont réservé les psychanalystes a vraisemblablement peu de choses à voir avec cette position. Il reste donc à chercher ailleurs les raisons de cet engouement.
