Alain Lieury et al., « Evaluation of the Encyclopedic Memory of 30,000 French Middle Schoolers », Bulletin de psychologie, ID : 10670/1.945fdb...
Previous experiments have demonstrated that school performance depends strongly on the long-term memory of school knowledge (history, biology, math . . .), which is referred to as encyclopedic memory. The test called Lexis, a by-product of these studies, was built by the French Ministry of Education to test 31,142 French middle schoolers (grade 6 of “collège”). The results reveal important correlations with a reasoning test (.47), but especially with school tests, comprehension (.67), and mathematics (.66). It is highly related to several students’ characteristics, such as grade retention, the language environment, and the socioeconomic status of the father.
