From September 24 to 29, 2012, a symposium dedicated to intangible cultural heritage(ICH) was held at the Centre culturel international de Cerisy (CCIC), in La Manche.A few years earlier, the illustrious Center had celebrated its centenary, opening up a reflection on the "Cerisy spirit" and the eminent role it had played in the history of the world's intangible cultural heritage.role it had played in a century of intellectual life in France.The idea then arose of applying to UnescoUnesco for recognition of this memory and the intangible heritage embodied bycultural space of Pontigny-Cerisy. Perhaps this is why the ideathe idea of devoting one of the Centre's annual colloquia to intangiblecultural heritage. Du 24 au 29 septembre 2012, un colloque consacré au patrimoine culturel immatériel(PCI) s’est tenu au Centre culturel international de Cerisy (CCIC), dans la Manche.Quelques années plus tôt, l’illustre Centre avait célébré son centenaire, ouvrant ainsi une réflexion sur l’« esprit Cerisy » et sur lerôle éminent qu’il avait joué en l’espace d’un siècle de vie intellectuelle en France.L’hypothèse avait alors surgit de solliciterl’Unesco pour faire reconnaître cette mémoire et le patrimoine immatériel qu’incarnel’espace culturel de Pontigny-Cerisy. C’est peut-être la raison pourlaquelle l’idée est née de consacrer un des colloques annuels du Centre au patrimoineculturel immatériel. Au-delà, cette idée portée et défendue par Édith Heurgon, lamaîtresse des lieux, manifestait bien plus largement un intérêt vif et précoce pour« penser avec ensemble » – selon la devise de Cerisy – ce nouveau champ qu’était alorsle patrimoine immatériel, mais aussi pour explorer cette Convention encore jeune del’Unesco, adoptée en 2003. Ici encore, s’affirmait ce fameux « esprit de Cerisy »,notamment face à la pusillanimité affichée à ce propos par certaines institutions plusofficielles. L’« esprit » s’est finalement concrétisé par l’organisation du colloque dont leprésent ouvrage rend compte, fruit de la rencontre d’une historienne, d’un ethnologueet d’un conservateur du patrimoine, et qui a réuni des chercheurs de plusieursdisciplines et des responsables d’administrations culturelles de différents pays etdifférentes institutions.
