This research–creation thesis focuses on contemporary reuse of the concept of carnival. In the first part, it presents three theatre plays, written and staged as a part of the research in Paris’s Conservatory, each of them exploring a specific aspect of carnival : the transgression of taboos in The Baby-sitting (2016), the reversal of roles between the dominant and the dominated in How Frank changed my life (2017), and the idea of a Spring rite of death and resurrection in The Shy Plant (2018). In the second part, it tells the history of« tactical carnivals »: born in the 1980s in the context of the opposition to the arms race, they reached a peak of popularity in England and throughout the world in the 1990s, along with the rise of the anti–globalization movement, before being developed in France in the 2010s — mostly among ecological struggles, and particularly at the« ZAD »of Notre-Dame-des-Landes.

Cette thèse de recherche–création s’intéresse aux réutilisations contemporaines du concept de carnaval. D’une part, elle présente trois pièces de théâtre écrites et mises en scène au Conservatoire de Paris dans le cadre de la recherche, et explorant différentes facettes du carnaval : la transgression des interdits dans Le Baby-sitting (2016), l’inversion des rôles entre dominants et dominés dans Comment Frank a changé ma vie (2017), l’idée d’une fête printanière de mort et de résurrection dans Le Mimosa pudique (2018). D’autre part, elle fait l’histoire des « carnavals militants » : ceux-ci, nés au début des années 1980 dans le contexte de l’opposition à la course aux armements, ont connu un premier âge d’or en Angleterre puis dans le monde dans les années 1990 en accompagnant l’essor du mouvement altermondialiste, avant de se développer en France dans les années 2010 — de façon privilégiée dans les luttes écologistes, et tout particulièrement autour de la Z.A.D. de Notre-Dame-des-Landes.
