Vocational school students are regularly associated with the idea of short and difficult school years. During this research, our goal was to confront those stereotypes by asking students in last school year about their post-secondary studies’ ambitions. As a first step, we framed the historical aspect surrounding how the vocational path is integrated to the educational system and we analyzed the current organization of the vocational baccalaureate. Then, we focused on those students’ school path through a quiz and individual interviews. The intended purpose of our work is to highlight the various factors influencing the will to pursue secondary studies within a public who progress in pathways traditionally associated with the idea of a quick entry into the labor market.

Les élèves du lycée professionnel sont régulièrement associés à l’idée d’une scolarité difficile et courte. Au cours de cette recherche, nous avons voulu confronter ces stéréotypes en interrogeant les ambitions de poursuite d’études d’élèves scolarisés en terminale professionnelle. Après avoir posé le décor historique du processus d’intégration de la voie professionnelle au système scolaire et interrogé l’organisation actuelle du baccalauréat professionnel, nous nous sommes intéressés aux parcours de ces élèves à travers un questionnaire et des entretiens individuels. Le but recherché étant la mise en exergue des différents paramètres qui influent sur la volonté de poursuite d’études au sein d’un public évoluant dans des filières traditionnellement associées à l’idée d’insertion professionnelle rapide.
