Résumé 0

The environmental and demographical challenges today facing our urban societies, and South-East Asian cities in particular, underscores the necessity to re-examine the economy of land management, and to pay special attention to the cultural, historical, and symbolic values of heritage, as necessary elements of the response to these environmental challenges. In this respect, the role of architects, from the scale of an individual building up to that of a city, requires a particular training, adapted to the context of the metropolises of South-East Asia.In Phnom Penh, in order to respond to the accumulation of urban issues, rapid growth, and numerous construction and infrastructure projects under way, the need for a renewed, structured approach to architectural training of young professionals is becoming all the more pressing. This need is felt both in international design offices and architectural firms which lead these projects, as well as Cambodian regional and local authorities who manage, control and orientate them, in order to ensure sustainability, respect for the environment, adaptation to the climate, and the needs of inhabitants. It is in response to these issues that the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh wishes to enrich its approach to the teaching of urbanism, with the support of the ENSAPB in particular, which has several decades of experience in organising teaching and research programmes in partnership with Asian universities.
