Résumé En

This paper investigates positional effects within the word in the acquisition of French as a first language. We consider two levels of prosodic representation: the prosodic word and the foot (feet having strong and weak positions). We study only consonantal material. The results show that the prosodic word plays a central role in licensing features. This results in processes such as harmony and metathesis, all of which support the assumption that strong positions enable licensing of marked segments. If a marked segment is present in weak position, a strong position will attract it through consonant harmony or metathesis. Those phenomena appear only in early child production when markedness constraints have a higher rank in the hierarchy of constraints than faithfulness constraints.
