On the basis of the translation strategies mentioned below, this article offers a critical analysis of the first English translation of Edward FitzGerald’s Rubáiyát. In general, we may wonder if FitzGerald was successful in conveying the unique rhythm and musicality of the Persian text in his translation? Did he also succeed in maintaining the semantic and rhythmic interaction of the original text? According to the theories of certain translation scholars such as Henri Meschonnic, Antoine Berman, Derek Attridge, and Gerard Desson, this article seeks to examine the questions raised by the translation of the Persian rhythm and the correlation between the meaning and the rhythm of the original text, and what is found in the first edition of FitzGerald's quatrains.

En se fondant sur les approches traductologiques citées ci-dessous, cet article se propose de faire une analyse critique de la première traduction anglaise des Robâïât d’Edward FitzGerald. En général, FitzGerald a-t-il réussi à transmettre le rythme et la musicalité unique du texte persan dans sa traduction? Est-il également parvenu à conserver l’interaction sémantique et rythmique du texte original dans sa version? En s’appuyant sur les théories de certains spécialistes de la traduction tels que Henri Meschonnic, Antoine Berman, Derek Attridge, et Gérard Desson, cet article vise à examiner les questions soulevées par la traduction du rythme persan ainsi que de la corrélation entre le sens et le rythme du texte original, et ce qui se retrouve dans la première édition des quatrains de FitzGerald.
