Les études dans le domaine des approximations sémantiques et de la métaphore portent une attention marquée au lexique des noms, au détriment d'une investigation sur le lexique des verbes. Dans ce papier, nous examinons la production d'approximations sémantiques verbales issue de jeunes enfants sans troubles ainsi que d'enfants Asperger et d'enfants avec autisme de haut niveau durant une tâche de dénomination d'actions vidéo. Notre objectif est d'éclairer le développement linguistique et conceptuel du lexique verbal en étudiant la production d'approximations sémantiques verbales tant en langue maternelle (L1) qu'en langue seconde (L2). Les résultats a) montrent une forte similarité entre les jeunes enfants en L1 et les enfants ou adultes en situation d'apprentissage d'une langue seconde (L2) ; et b) étayent notre hypothèse selon laquelle la production des approximations sémantiques chez l'Asperger est très différente de celle observée chez les enfants sans troubles et les enfants avec autisme de haut niveau. Le problème des enfants Asperger dans la production des approximations sémantiques signerait une déficience significative dans le développement de leur système lexical et serait à voir comme une cause majeure de leur handicap communicationnel : rejet d'expressions approximatives, production et attente de mots spécifiques, non adaptation à la variété lexicale et donc communicationnelle des interlocuteurs, enfermement dans des univers lexicaux spécialisés.
