Theater and theatrical practice facilitate the social integration of persons with intellectual disability. But does this integration entail inclusion? What are the conditions for this art to prompt a more inclusive gaze? This article addresses these questions through a dramaturgical analysis of a show performed by people with disabilities. It also draws on the results of a collaborative research conducted during an inclusive theater workshop. Theater and theatrical practice can contribute to the uptake of a more inclusive gaze, provided that it does not lock up people with intellectual disability into situations of disability, and provided that it offers a genuine artistic creation.

Le théâtre et la pratique théâtrale participent à l’insertion des personnes classées déficientes intellectuelles dans la société. Mais cette insertion est-elle vraiment synonyme d’inclusion ? Quelles sont les conditions pour que cet art éveille un regard inclusif ? Cet article propose d’étudier ces questions par l’analyse d’un spectacle joué par des personnes en situation de handicap et d’un stage de théâtre spécifiquement inclusif. Le théâtre et la pratique théâtrale peuvent éveiller un regard inclusif, à condition de ne pas enfermer les personnes classées déficientes intellectuelles dans le handicap et de proposer une véritable création artistique.
